The names, and what they mean

It helps to be precise about the words, because in law the boundaries carry real weight.

• Octopus is the shared ecosystem and brand family. It is not a company and it does not own or control the organisations within it.
• Octopus Core Pty Ltd is the commercial company that builds and commercialises technology.
• Octoryn™ is the technology and product trademark owned by Octopus Core Pty Ltd.
• Octopus Future Limited is this independent not-for-profit — a separate legal entity, not a subsidiary of Octopus Core.

Why independence matters

Octopus Future is not owned or controlled by any commercial entity, and its charitable assets belong to its charitable purpose alone. That structural independence protects the integrity of our mission and is essential to charitable status.

Independence does not mean isolation. Collaboration across the ecosystem is expected where it genuinely advances our charitable purpose — but always transparently, and on fair, arm's-length terms.

Using Octoryn technology responsibly

Where Octopus Future uses Octoryn-branded technology or platform IP owned by Octopus Core Pty Ltd, it does so under a documented agreement that defines purpose, rights, pricing and boundaries.

Participation, shared branding, funding or technical support never, by themselves, transfer ownership of our charitable assets — or of Octopus Core's commercial IP. Rights arise only under written agreements approved under our Constitution and policies.

How this protects the people we serve

Clear boundaries are not bureaucracy — they are a safeguard. They ensure that our charitable resources stay dedicated to public benefit, that conflicts of interest are managed openly, and that no commercial partner can quietly redirect the mission.
